about the work

context about the work

It is a potpourri structured record, centering guaracha groove, bass & triplet percussion as the main motif. Potpourri in the classical music sense because it doesn’t repeat a single section. Unlike more cannonic familiar forms of music in sections, ABA’B’ etc, this one goes ABCD…etc. This is a musical concept I came across from DJs in my region, specially DJ Javier Estrada, who djs in this way. I have also started to reflect my sets in this way to break away from these very established forms. So though it kinda sounds like techno or other latin club based dance music at large, it is trying to rewire some meaning into the form and for the forms.

It is also only uses 303s and its sample based deriviates, the bootleg machines and the vsts. I wanted to write as much of the non percussive sections only using this as a sound source to paint the context for the beat study. Putting it in dialogue with these forms of drums that historically hasn’t been matched with.
